It would really be an interesting study.. a difficult one, especially when we talk of revenues/spending etc of companies. I have seen this situation before, when it comes to such kind of analysis.. It is rare to find the breakdown of individual initiatives (in this case the R&D and the Maps component) in their reports :(
I would like to hear from others on this. - Harsha Vardhan http://twitter.com/harsham -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of P Kishor Sent: Saturday, December 20, 2008 10:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Geowanking] cost of "maps" to the various private providers Is there any way to estimate how much does their spatial initiative cost Google, Yahoo, Microsoft respectively, and how much they benefit from them? Do they list somewhere estimates of the cost as well as the impact on their respective bottom-lines of Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, MS Live Maps, etc.? I have scanned Google's financial tables and form 10Q on the sec website, but predictably, breakdown by their various initiatives is not provided. They spent 13% of their 2007 revenues on R&D, but there is no guessing if maps count as R&D or something else. Any ideas on how to estimate such numbers? -- Puneet Kishor _______________________________________________ Geowanking mailing list [email protected] http://geowanking.org/mailman/listinfo/geowanking_geowanking.org _______________________________________________ Geowanking mailing list [email protected] http://geowanking.org/mailman/listinfo/geowanking_geowanking.org
