I am helping a boutique geo company move their web architecture from a managed VPS to Amazon Web Services. Personally, I haven't done much more than set up test servers and play with Hadoop in AWS. Does anyone have general hints on tools, techniques and best practices?
For instance, I just had to move an AMI from my personal account to the company account across AWS regions. Creating the AMI and sharing it was easy. Moving across regions was a total PITA. I ended up using Ylastic.com which is pretty cool but seems like overkill for this company's needs to pay for on-going.
