Hi Eric, I see. The tasks I was involved in requires constantly spinning up AWS cluster then after running the hadoop job, nuke them. So instead of manually set up AMI, we wrote script to do the whole process using EC2-tools: http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/351
It seems that you might just do the same. Instead of manually set up AMI, use script to do the set up and then just run the script using the company's EC2 account credentials.
