The Finnish road authorities used pretty much a similar setup - driving
around and mapping roads - to develop the new Finnish road database. The
problem is that, although the information is out there, it is easier to
map this way. And while they had roads more or less, it was all the
other information: bus stops, nr of lanes, traffic signs etc. etc. they
needed to map.
They are trying to organize the updating through organizations though.
Probably there are also private companies driving around and collecting
more or less the same data.
Could you tell us how these things are organized in Sweden?
