Dear geowankers,
So, I'm thinking seriously about buying a GPS unit. What I want is the
following:
1. Cheap
2. Can show me my position on a topo map
I looked a little at the Garmin units and they want $120 for the topo
maps and don't even support what I really want (24k USGS topos of
obscure places).
Georeferenced image files of the topos seem pretty easy to get, so it
seems like I should be able to upload those into the GPS unit. Do any
support this? Any pointers to websites on this topic? Other thoughts?
Linux is preferable, but Windows is OK, and I'm willing to jump through
a fair number of hoops and/or user unfriendliness.
