Those openmoko guys seem a lot more tuned in. I talked with them a bit to see if it was possible to liberate some of the gadgets to play with (which it looks like will happen in March).
They put a new site up yesterday at: http://planet.openmoko.org/ And have an IRC channel at #openmoko irc.freenode.net . - a On 1/25/07, Mike Liebhold <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
This is not good news, but not a total disaster, although developers will be denied access to the client hardware platform, there is no reason why anyone can't develop amazing web-based services accessible from the iphone's built-in safari browser. My sole concern about the iphone as a platform for location based services, is how to programatically utilize unique MAC adresses of wifi access points for geolocation processing. I am hoping that Apple willl at least expose some level of access to the wifi connection functions. - Mike Beau Gunderson wrote: "Apple CEO Steve Jobs stated emphatically that despite its OS X roots, the Apple iPhone would be closed to third-party apps, remarking, "You don't want your phone to be an open platform...Cingular doesn't want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up.""
