Does anyone have any good data sources for 'basic' geospatial datasets for

Transportation, hydrology, jurisdictions, etc.,
The Geographynetwork has some limited and coarse datasets but I would rather
find the source for transportation, ownership, imagery and topographic maps. I
have been able to view data online using the galileo program under GIS for the
Mecian government at http://www.inegi.gob.mx/inegi/default.aspx.

Perhaps I need to understand how the sytem of data is managed and accessed.
