Hi Ben,
When I asked, there was some interesting info that came out (see
http://technology.slashgeo.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/25/1931255 ) but no
standard could be found. Maybe you could tell the OGC about your ITF
initiative? (yeah, I know OGC standards are not en vogue recently ;-)
Good luck,
Alex

Wanted to say that there is indeed a file format for TINs, VTP ITF, which is
simple, efficient, geospatially aware, and documented. User in the VTP
community have been using it for years. It's a 'standard' insofar as more
software should decide to adopt it.

Alex,
I don't know slashgeo very well, but I couldn't find your
post. I'd be interested in discussing TIN formats. I use them
quite frequently in my day job as a land surveyor, but always
in commercial software.
I'd like to explore TIN support in open source software in
the future and would also be interested in a "standard" TIN format.
The OGC may have something for this in there GML Coverages spec.

Subject: [Geowanking] TIN formats?
Hi list,
I just started a thread on TIN formats on Slashgeo. Some
might want to add information?
http://technology.slashgeo.org/article.pl?sid=07/01/25/1931255
On the post, I share what I found with a quick search (not
that much).
In short, I'm trying to learn if there are standard formats for TINs.
Cheers,
Alex :-)
