Hi Bruce, I have been using Perl for a pretty extensive set of ETL-type tasks ending up with data in ArcSDE. I have used the Win32 Com interface ESRI provides to do all the geoprocessing. If you have that for Ruby, you should have little problem. The documentation is spotty, and error reporting is worse, but the ArcGIS help is pretty good, and if you use the Model Builder to mock out your geoprocessing steps, you can get a pretty good idea of what to write in the language of your choice. -- Puneet Kishor http://punkish.eidesis.org/ Nelson Inst. for Env.
