Are there any metrics out there as to the relationship between density
of towers and location accuracy?  How dense is "high density"?

It seems that accuracy is vastly improved with a higher density of  
cell towers (at least for the symbian cell only version). In Vancouver  
it's usually too far off to be useful, but in New York, it was  
actually accurate enough for me to use for basic navigation.
