Subject: New book about climate change denialism

Dear colleagues

I'd like to bring your attention to Clive Hamilton's new book Requiem for a
Species: Why <http://www.earthscan.co.uk/requiem> We Resist the Truth About
Climate Change, published today by Earthscan.

The book spells out the enormous implication of our failure to reach an
agreement at Copenhagen, and attempts to explain why we have failed to act,
despite numerous scientific reports emphasizing how dire the future looks.
In a final chapter called 'Reconstructing a Future', Clive also looks at
what we can do now.

- In an extract from the book published by The Guardian today, Clive
examines the roots

ilton> of the denial lobby in US conservatism's reaction to the fall of
communism.

- The Preface is available to read here

- And Clive's first blog post about the book - 'Are we all climate deniers?'
- is online here

"This remarkable publication brings together the scientific imperatives of
taking action in the field of climate change. Hamilton highlights the
political inertia which is currently acting as a roadblock. In the wake of
the weak outcome at Copenhagen, this book assumes added significance in
breaking resistance to the truth about climate change."

RK Pachauri, Chair IPCC

"I'm afraid Clive Hamilton has it right about climate change - deeply
afraid. Requiem is a brave and searingly honest book by a brilliant scholar.
Please, read this book now."

James Gustave Speth, Dean Emeritus, Yale School of Forestry and
Environmental Studies
