Hello all,
The Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS) welcomes proposals from academic institutions to host its annual conference in 2015 or 2016. The AESS conference is typically held from Wednesday through Saturday during the third week of June with expected participation of 300-500 attendees. Please send proposals via email to my attention by May 1, 2014. Proposals needn't be voluminous documents. Four to six pages single-spaced exclusive of letters and CVs should be sufficient. Proposals should, however, minimally include the following: 1) General information on the academic institution(s) that would host the conference, as well as specific information about your program(s) and connections with AESS. 2) Details on the proposed conference venue: plenary/session space, on and off-campus accommodations, accessibility, food services, sustainable practices, etc., including a map or verbal description of the logistics of getting around at your location. 3) Air access, including frequency of flights and major carriers in/out of the most convenient airport, typical costs and number of transfers. Distance from airport to conference venue and mode of ground transportation. 4) Information on previous comparable conferences organized by your institution(s) at this venue. 5) AESS conference registration costs are kept rather low. Please provide assurances that a conference at your location would be similarly affordable (e.g., information on lodging rates, meals or previous conference expenses). 6) Potential attractiveness of the conference venue to AESS members. This includes field trip opportunities and attractions for families. 7) There is no requirement that your institution contribute financially (in real vs. in-kind costs) to an AESS conference, but it's important for AESS to know that you have institutional support. Please provide an institutional letter and summary of ways in which your institution can support the conference. 8) Specific information as to how you would handle online and onsite registration for your location. 9) A CV of the prospective lead site organizer(s). 10) Specification of whether you could hold the conference in either 2015 or 2016 or in only one of these years. Proposals will be reviewed by the site arrangements committee with final determinations made by the AESS Board of Directors. We hope to notify applicants shortly before our annual meeting in June 2014. Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have via email or phone (650-281-9126).
