I have two PhD openings on an exciting new project on regional
environmental governance and would be grateful if you could circulate
this to interested students. One position has a focus on East/Southeast
Asia, the other on East/Southeast Europe. Interested and qualified
candidates may be considered for a small teaching assistant complement.

The positions are attached to the Department of Geography and
Environment, but doctoral degrees can be had in another relevant social
science discipline via co-supervision.

*Job Description*

The successful candidate will complete a doctoral dissertation in the
framework of the project “Regional Orders in International Environmental
Politics (REORIENT)” financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation
(SNSF). The project examines the proliferation of regional environmental
agreements, with a special focus on situations where countries are
subject to multiple, overlapping agreements (pluri-regionality). It
investigates the mechanisms driving regionalization and responses to
pluri-regionality by means of a global assessment using the
international environmental agreements database as well as a comparative
study of East/Southeast Europe and East/Southeast Asia. The successful
candidate will work on the East/Southeast Asia / East/Southeast Europe
case study.

*Qualifications*

Candidates must have a Masters Degree (obtained no later than October 1,
2016) in international relations, political science, political
geography, or a related social science; a demonstrated research
commitment to international environmental cooperation in the case study
area; and good command of spoken and written English. Proficiency in
French as well as a language used in the case study area is desired.

*Additional information*

/Length of contract. /Contracts are for one year, renewable twice for a
maximum of three years. The initial contract is subject to a trial
period of three months.

/Salary. /The salary is fixed in accordance with SNSF rates (see
http://www.snf.ch/SiteCollectionDocuments/Annex_XII_Ausfuehrungsreglement_Beitragsreglement_E.pdf).

/Discipline./ It is possible, through a co-supervising agreement, to
pursue a PhD in a discipline other than Geography.
