The SEA Branch is responsible for planning and conducting research related to the management of the Nation’s natural resources through the development of knowledge about human interactions with the environment. We welcome applicants with educational backgrounds in traditional social sciences and social science oriented natural science programs. The SEA Branch is seeking a Research Social Scientist who will act as principal investigator to design, secure funding for, conduct, and publish original research. The preferred candidate will be a specialist capable of applying social science in the context of natural resource management, and is responsible for conducting research to aid in the conservation and management of public lands. The preferred candidate’s research program must focus on one or more contexts relevant to the USGS science strategy and mission (including but not limited to, climate change, wildlife, energy development, natural hazards, drought, decision sciences, or decision support systems/tools; http://www.usgs.gov/start_with_science/).
