LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN SCIENCE IN SOCIETY Science

The Science in Society Group invites applications for the position of
Lecturer or Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Science in Society.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in an appropriate humanities or
social science discipline, relevant publications in refereed journals and
books, teaching experience at undergraduate level, and experience
supervising postgraduates. We welcome applicants who are highly effective
teachers and communicators, and whose research lends itself to
interdisciplinary collaboration.

We are a small, dynamic team who critically engage with issues in science
communication/public engagement with science/science in society and are at
the forefront of the strategic development and delivery of large, online
courses (including MOOCs) at Victoria University. Alongside maintaining a
strong research programme, the appointed academic will be required to
recruit and supervise research students, contribute to a 300-level course
in science communication, and teach into/coordinate at least two of the
online undergraduate courses offered by the group (currently in energy and
society, contemporary issues in science in society, history of science and
Antarctic science and culture). There will also be opportunities to create
and contribute to new courses, including at postgraduate level, depending
on the appointee’s specific areas of interest and expertise.

As well as having proven teaching skills and an excellent research
portfolio of relevance to science in society, we would be particularly
interested in candidates with teaching and research interest and experience
in: science communication and public engagement with science; ma?tauranga M
a?ori; issues in science in society in the wider Asia-Pacific region;
and/or science and technology studies.

The appointment will be either at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer or Associate
Professor level depending upon the level of proven experience of the
successful candidate. Experience or demonstrable potential for developing
collaborative partnerships across and beyond a University environment would
also be advantageous.
