Dear all,

Even if it weren’t for my Alma Mater *#IstandwithCEU*
<https://www.ceu.edu/istandwithceu> at these challenging times.

And I am hoping for support of fellow academicians, too. You can sign a
petition here: https://www.change.org/p/hungarian-national-assembly-
save-the-central-european-university?source_location=petitions_share_skip
and please see below more options that might help CEU.

Please feel free to forward this also to other academic networks.

Kind regards,

Ilkhom

Dear Loyal CEU Alumni,

Thank you for the overwhelming show of support and the flood of ideas on
how to mobilize support around the world. As you have seen, there has been
a tremendous international media response in the last 24 hours.

The Pro-Rector for Hungarian Affairs, Zsolt Enyedi, and I met last night
with Laszlo Palkovics, Minister of State for Education, and remain
concerned that the government does not yet fully realize the implications
of the proposed legislation. Further, it remains unclear why the government
feels this legislation is necessary given their acknowledgement of CEU's
contributions to Hungarian academic life.

We are willing to remain in dialogue with the government but cannot accept
the tabled legislation as a basis for discussion.

I will be going to Washington DC on Sunday to represent our case to US
lawmakers and media.

We need your continued help in promoting this issue and sharing it with
your friends and colleagues around the world. We have set up a
#istandwithCEU webpage here https://www.ceu.edu/istandwithceu
<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PBg6vJNWBfssVF2KtdQhbBVDg-pUiJRAbS0WHDmia4wlTQXwKhlfIhAVyuWtS0vDLKiVn_KxiKcfSmQ0BffmVZYwkRBRc4BqLJv7hyQTqmlV5y2T1_AcUJ9vIyO-IcUdXVIMF-gAc0VfXmE0BQowLs5sqFVpzmW6VnvcvTascXzaYjoJCYP0Kw==&c=Eai3Zc8rV_RAvH2IIq-PMVqS3RCQ4n-f5VGnOOolgzZ6r9Srb9fcCA==&ch=ZNrWN9xKoZy3PeFq7dfrqMNNXrsxiQU4-3Ah0ntJzqSNr8IEZFKqFQ==>
that invites everyone to:

   - Send a letter of solidarity with CEU to the Hungarian government
   - Share videos of our community forum and press conference
   - Engage on social media and in grassroots actions
   - Read and share press releases and background information

Please note, we believe a public demonstration is inadvisable at this time
as we feel that this may expose the community to unnecessary risk.

Please send any offers to help to [email protected]. This will serve
as a central coordination point for all support.

As a reminder, the following CEU colleagues are the point persons for
coordinating mobilization activities:

   - Faculty - Eva Fodor, Pro-Rector for Social Sciences and Humanities (
   [email protected])
   - Students - Chrys Margaritidis, Dean of Students ([email protected]
   )
   - Staff - Margaret Bolter, Vice President for Administration (
   [email protected])
   - Alumni and Applicants - Serge Sych, Vice President for Enrollment
Management and Alumni Relations ([email protected])
   - Hungarian Affairs - Zsolt Enyedi, Pro-Rector Hungarian Affairs (
   [email protected])
   - Media - Adri Bruckner, Director of Communications ([email protected])
   - Funders - Trisha Tanner, Vice President for Development (
   [email protected])

Thank you to all for your quick and dedicated actions helping mobilize
support for CEU!

Best regards,

Michael Ignatieff
President and Rector
