Postdoctoral Associate Human Dimensions of Global Wildlife Conservation Conservation Criminology Michigan State University (MSU), East Lansing, MI, USA A postdoctoral associate position is available for a highly motivated independent individual with experience in the human dimensions of global wildlife conservation. Applicants must hold a PhD in social psychology, criminology, human geography, other social science with a focus on conservation, or related field by the start of the position. Broad research interests ideally include understanding the underlying mechanisms that inform human relationships with the environment, environmental risks, and overexploitation of fish and wildlife resources. Applicants must have a strong background in interdisciplinary social science, participatory research, risk perception, interdisciplinary methods, social statistics, scientific writing, and fieldwork in remote international settings. Ideal candidates will have experience with community-based conservation, community policing, crime science, risk mapping, and GIS. In addition to being an active member of the lab and Department, the postdoctoral associate will be expected to lead collection of, manage and analyze conservation criminology data associated with an ongoing community-based conservation crime prevention program in the Annamite Mountains of Vietnam. Approximately 6 months of intermittent fieldwork will involve supervising 3 Vietnamese graduate students and coordinating with the nongovernmental organization Global Wildlife Conservation as the primary point of contact in Vietnam. The associate will write manuscripts and findings reports in collaboration with Vietnamese and conservation collaborators. Travel to Washington DC and scientific society meetings is encouraged. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to maintain active certification in human subjects protection and responsible conduct and research; permits for this project have been secured by Global Wildlife Conservation. The postdoctoral associate will be encourage to avail her/himself to any/all faculty development, mentoring, teaching, grant writing, public speaking, and other professional development resources at MSU. The position offers a competitive salary and excellent health benefits. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position, with reappointment conditional on satisfactory performance. Funding is expected to be available for two years. The ideal start timeframe is September 2017.
