I am accepting applications for a PhD student in environmental policy, 
planning, and sustainability at the University of New Hampshire to begin 
January 2018, as part of a USDA-funded project in cooperation with UNH 
Cooperative Extension investigating flood risk management, green 
infrastructure, stakeholders’ interests, and policy opportunities and 
barriers. Research will begin in New Hampshire with the possibility of 
expansion to other areas. Applications will be considered on a rolling 
basis until the position is filled, with a first round of interviews 
scheduled for early December. Applicants should email the required

The selected student will complete their PhD as part of UNH’s 
interdisciplinary Natural Resources and Environmental Studies Ph.D. Program 
(http://www.unh.edu/nressphd/) and will participate in the Environmental 
Policy, Planning, & Sustainability Lab https://colsa.unh.edu/epps. The 
position includes full tuition, a 9-month academic year stipend, summer 
stipend, and health insurance for 3.5 years. Desired qualifications include 
an M.A. or M.S. in environmental studies, natural resource management, 
planning, geography, political science or related field, a strong interest 
in interdisciplinary and applied research, an inquisitive nature, strong 
communication skills, the ability to work well independently and as part of 
a team, and fluency in English. Experience with qualitative research, 
conducting interviews, using qualitative analysis software, and GIS are 
highly desirable.
