Governance
Position Description
We seek a post-doctoral researcher interested in sustainable urban water 
policies and practices at the local level. Our project examines the 
implementation of sustainable water innovations by local public agencies as 
well as by networked groups of stakeholders from the public, private, and 
nonprofit sectors.
This post-doctoral position is part of the NSF-funded Coupled Natural Human 
Systems project called “Coupled Networks in Urbanized Landscapes: Linking 
Ecosystem Services and Governance for Water

This post-doctoral researcher will assist project investigators on diverse 
research tasks such as gathering and reviewing academic literature, design and 
implementation of survey protocols, interviewing water policy stakeholders, and 
data analysis. In addition, researchers will work with project team members to 
engage water policy stakeholders in a series of science-policy workshops across 
the state of Arizona.
The post-doctoral fellow will be part of a larger social science community 
studying policy adoption and change, and innovation in urban water governance.  
Faculty members and graduate students are affiliated with the University of 
Arizona’s School of Government and Public Policy, the School of Geography and 
Development, the College of Architecture and Planning, and the Udall Center for 
Studies in Public Policy. In addition, the post-doc will have opportunities to 
participate in the broader CNH community, including researchers and faculty in 
the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, and the Department of 
Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences.  There is a linked natural science

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in social science research 
methods, as well as social science theories of policy change. In addition, 
candidates should have experience with – or an interest and ability to learn – 
social network analysis, empirical survey research, and data management and 
analysis in R. PhD in public policy, political science, public administration, 
public management, planning, geography, or related interdisciplinary fields.
