Dear Archi and the GEP-Ed community,

I also look forward to reading this! Just how to connect social science to
problem solving is a great topic, especially when we know that social movements
are often part of complex processes that sometimes can unleash transformative
policy change – but not always in purely predictive ways.

In this regard, I have been involved in a number of collaborative reflexive
efforts recently that ponder whether scholarly communities, including political
science and even professional environment schools, may not only be useful for
helping ameliorate environmental problems, but might have, inadvertently,
contributed to them.

Here is at talk at ICPP4 I gave on this topic in Montreal in June.

I recognize that this is an awkward conversation to have, to be sure, but I
think given we all share a sense of urgency, this is an appropriate time to
address, and reflect on, these questions.

Le me also recognize that all of us in the gep-ed community come from
honourable places. I also take it as given that we all appreciate, benefit
from, and embrace, reflexivity.

Steven Bernstein and I are currently revising a paper that fleshes out the Type
1, 2, 3 and 4 policy conception points in the talk, so am happy to send a
revised draft to those would like to see it when we complete latest round of
revisions. (Many of you have already provided thoughtful feedback on previous
versions including a paper at last year’s ISA).

Most happy to receive any critiques or reflections you might have.

Best

Ben

Subject: Re: [gep-ed] Climate Strikes

Dear GEP friends,

Following from Aseem's comment two weeks ago, here is my blog post that
predicted that the climate strikes would have limited impact:
https://ieu.greenclimate.fund/news/new-blog-will-the-climate-strikes-create-impact-?<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fieu.greenclimate.fund%2Fnews%2Fnew-blog-will-the-climate-strikes-create-impact-%3F&data=02%7C01%7Cbenjamin.cashore%40yale.edu%7C9851174d29a7495aa67408d745ca6f71%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637054608057251201&sdata=yffVxcd9SKfWQiB9ZqdL2uIsXAy3wmHBnjMvaLjsNhQ%3D&reserved=0>
With this, I continue to argue for the inclusion of more social sciences
(including political sciences) into planning activism and policy engagement.

Look forward to any feedback or comments.
Warm regards
Archi
