Folks,

I’d appreciate it if you would share this ad with your students and/or recent
PhDs. This is a great place to work and Postdocs who have spent some time here
have gotten very good placements.

AidData's Chinese Development Finance Program team is still looking for a
postdoctoral fellow to join us for 2-years starting this summer (job
description<https://jobs.wm.edu/postings/46489>). Applications are open until
filled and we are interviewing candidates now -- please help us spread the word!

Based at William & Mary's Global Research Institute where AidData is housed,
the fellow will help build our team's research agenda on the development
impacts of Chinese Belt and Road projects in the global South using the high
precision spatial and temporal variations now available in our newly released
dataset<https://www.aiddata.org/data/aiddatas-global-chinese-development-finance-dataset-version-2-0>.
We are ideally looking for a candidate with interest in environmental and
international development policy: some GIS skills are required and familiarity
with Chinese development finance is a plus. But open to hiring someone who has
good skills and is ready to learn.

In terms of promoting it myself and asking the same of Brad: yes, I'm doing a
bit of that this week but quickly exhausting my networks to be honest. I'm
thinking it might be time to re-post it onto some of the academic networks job
sites including ASA/AEA, APPAM, APSA, ISA, etc. I'll email Hayley and Martha
about this today since they've done it for us before.

Also, I wonder if you know how other searches came along? Do you suppose there
could be other candidates in Phil's and Jessica's pools that might be worth
interviewing at this stage? (I'll write to them but thought I'll check with you
first) I'll also ping Ryan today since he's always got ideas :)

Send me revised short description that I can share via email. Assume you have
Brad doing the same thing, yes?

Thanks.

Hi Mike, we made a verbal offer a couple of weeks ago but he decided to go for
a tenure track position in his native S Korea!
We're back to the drawing board now, interviewing more candidates and aren't
really finding very many promising candidates at the moment. Having said that,
we're hopeful of finding someone good in the coming days.
I wouldn't mind any help you can provide in making another push within our
networks, we're now more open minded and flexible about our requirements, so if
there's someone with some GIS skills and lots of China/BRI knowhow, we'll take
them.
Best,
Ammar

Where are we?

You have a good backup? Offer made?
