A simple example is the case of long haired cavies. Some breeders have
been known to clip the hair before selling the animals on. This means
that although they hair will grow long, it will never look as good to a
judge as the animals the breeder is keeping who have never been clipped.
Cavy breeders have also been known to tear the ears of the animals they
are passing on to make sure they cannot be shown. (Some have even been
accused of tearing the ears of other people's cavies to nobble the
opposition!)
