I did a similar thing once. I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I
think I let the two gerbils (Baldrick and Blackadder) run in the tub
first and since the chasing wasn't too bad I put them into a cage half
an hour later. That cage hadn't been cleaned after my dwarf hamster had
lived in it for 4 days. All I did was clean the toilet corner, which
also wasn't particularily dirty.
Baldrick and Blackadder got on quite well for a week, but then stupid me
put Maximilian next to them, also in a wire cage. They all got quite
nervous and the next day Baldrick turned on Blackadder and I had to
separate them. I dare say if it hadn't been for Maximilian they would
have gotten on allright. I may be wrong, tho.
Anyway, Blackadder was introduced to the widower Frosch (Frosch is such
a dear. I loved him so much for accepting Blackadder. Two earlier
introductions had failed.) and I gave Baldrick to a friend whose gerbils
had fought. She managed to introduce Baldrick to one of hers, but if
IIRC they fought again a few months later and she had to separate them
again. :-(
