Hi list-
Well, Sammy is having teeth problems again. I noticed she was starting to
fuss with her mouth a bit, and it got worse and worse until I was feeding
her baby cereal through a syringe to bypass her teeth altogether. I took
her to the vet on monday and he said that it looks like her teeth are
growing in at an odd angle after the time she knocked them out. So, he
anesthetized her and removed one completely that was loose and cut the
others back. She's been recovering gradually over the past few days and can
now drink from the bottle by herself and is eating small pieces of solid
food. Of the 6 gerbils I have, this would only happen to Sammy!
I also posted a while ago about fighting between Sappho and Calantha, whom
I had separated. They both seemed very depressed and lonely on their own,
so I made a split cage and put Calantha back and they're doing so much
better. Calantha is as spazzy as ever again (living alone, she just slept
most of the time) and Sappho has begun eating better and putting on some of
the weight she had lost. They're only in a 15 gallon aquarium now, so I
think I'll get them a 20 gallon long and set up a permanent divider so they
can live together with enough space.
That's all my gerbil news for now- thanks for reading!
Jill
