| I posted that grouchy message this morning. I'll give you a follow-up.
|
PS because maybe I'm still grouchy --
** Please understand your own expertise and mention it if you are a new
writer to GML or are writing to a new user. Remember that there are new
gerbils lovers joining GML every week. They don't know that you also are
a newbie. to gerbils. In time we get to know each other.
** Newbies DO pick up on which helpers know their stuff. Unless the
newbie is dumb enough to think that personality is everything.
(Personality = saying nice-nice and cultivating "Us vs. Them", prolly
good use of language in the newbie reader's native tongue, plus some
public image on GML.)
** That's also a hint to legitimate GML experts. If your personal
private email following is based on image and personality, something
might be wrong. If you are really ego-involved, you are preying on both
people and animals. Please don't change your off-List practices -- but
consider whether your advice is the only advice. And say so.
Another hint to a couple experts: You don't have to be stuffy and write
formally to express your expertise. Honest. Look at Julian -- who I
imagine often sits in his underwear amd writes accordingly (*grin*).
** That does not mean you as a NEWBIE subscriber to GML should not offer
your newbie personal experience. We learn a lot from each other. But you
might mention, for the even more recent new newbies, how much experience
your advice is based upon. (Some people recently have been awfully good
at that when they introduced themselves as "used to keep gerbils and I'm
now returning.")
** Please do not post a GML message to an unimportant opinion message
that says "I think so too." You can practice with this message. I
welcome PERSONAL email that says how you disagree or agree with me. And
of course, if you disagree strongly you should says so on GML.
PS -- In my previous message I mentioned some obvious GML experts --
Julian, Karin, Michelle et al. They are not my ONLY favorites. I've
learned to assess each posting on its merits. People like them most often
make sense to me (and they SAY that they have done research and have long
experience).
I have many other favorite experts. Also many favorite Semi-Experts and
social commentators and pure fun people. I hope you think the same and
have your own GML favorite writers. It's cool that we don't need to ACT
on our favorites -- which is different from being in high school. We
don't have to tell them that they are our favorites, although I suspect
that thanks to them have got to be appreciated.
