I have noticed that on some of the boxes of Orna.,
that they do say that it can be used for small
animals. But then again some do not. My vet said
that Orna. or a sulfate medication (which I can no
longer find on the general market) for birds will
suffice and will not harm your gerbil. I have always
used it with my gerbils, rats, mice and even once with
a ferret with no harm done. You should have no
problem with it. Today's marketers have yet to
realize what a demand there is out there for the same
items for small rodents. They tend to believe that
any mouse, rat or gerbil that is bought is bought for
snake food. We just have to get together and prove
them wrong and let them know that there is a greater
market in small rodents than there is in birds!:)

I already breed and provide small rodents for the
local petstores as a small business. Trust me, it is
hard to get respect in this area because I don't do it
on such a large scale as to hurt the animals while
breeding for snake food. I SEE these animals in the
stores that die just because someone did not care
enough about WHY they were breeding the animal so you
keep getting lower quality animals because they
believe that you are just going to buy the animal,
take it home and feed it to a snake. You get it home,
wanting it for a pet and it dies of a sickness it
inherited or contracted from another one. It is
terrible, and as someone in that line of business it
is horrifying and a good reminder of why I have the
business: to provide loving people with healthy, sweet
animals that they will cherish and who will cherish
them back. Okay, so now I am preaching (WELL I AM a
minister as well:)) But I am sure you all know what I
am saying. YOu know, I have yet to even find a
supplier who will provide me with warehouse priced
merchandise, because it just doesn't happen. So, I am
forced to pay emmensly for my business. Whew! lots of
money going out.
