Baby shampoo is about the most irritating of soaps.  It should never be used
because it is not "gentle" to avoid eye irritation, it has topical
anesthetic in it to numb the eyes should the soap get in them.  The
anesthetic is harsh.

I use "Mane & Tail" (horse) shampoo on my dog, but I haven't had reason to
use it on the gerbils.  Just don't use "no more tears" baby shampoo on
animals.
