We had Sappho put to sleep today. She was very obviously suffering, and
when we brought her to the vet this morning, she said she had fluid in her
lungs and her heart sounded muffled, possibly from a tumor or heart
disease. She hadn't eaten or taken water in over 24 hrs. She couldn't stand
up or hold herself still, so we decided to end her suffering. It was a
difficult decision, but I'm relieved she's not in pain anymore. This is my
first gerbil death, so it's been pretty hard. She'll be missed greatly.
