The grand total for the Feb. 23 litter of Jasmine by Winter is eight. Seven
are pink and one is dark. Only one runt that I can tell and it seems to be
doing fine, not forgotten by the parents. Winter has figured out that
pacing back and forth nervously is of no help in the situation and is now
watching the kids and keeping them warm. Of note: I am AMAZED at how much
food a gerbil feeding a litter of eight consumes (I don't recall any litters
that large when I had gerbils in college). She also eats more of the "less
desirable" seed so I'm sure her diet is well-balanced with the addition of
some kibble. New breeders like me need to be sure to keep a close eye on
the food until we learn just how much is taken every day!
