My son peeled a large orange into a large spiral so the peel could be held
as an empty shell. Of course we all immediately thought of the gerbils.

Little Flopsy, who is tiny and very docile, hopped from his hand into the
peel and stayed at least 30 minutes. She poked her head out, looked around,
took a bite of the white pith, pulled her head in, circled counter
clockwise, snuggled down, hummed a little, and slept a few seconds. She
repeated this routine until I put the peel in my lap and she climbed out to
explore. I offered my hand to climb onto many times but she preferred to
stay in the peel.

Mopsy, her BIG & wiggly sister, hardly fit in the peel. She just passed
through it on her way to explore.

He peeled another and we tried Spidey, also tiny but much more skittish than
Flopsy. Spidey hopped right in and left her black tail hanging out the
crack! She liked it too but only stayed a few minutes before exploring down
my arm.

This was incredibly cute!
