Perhaps you can supply them with an upside down flower pod made of
clay <hm?> Are they available in the "plastic century" anymore??
(with an entrance wide enough, they can get in: I used a hardmetal saw
cord to make this entrance (normally used for making empty spaces in
tiles and available in the construction market). They will sometimes
tireless scratch on the rough inner surface and trim their nails
themselves. Any other comparable rough clay surface positioned stable
but sloping enough (maybe to get to the second floor or so) may do the
trick too.
Trimming with a nail clipper or so isn't without risk. You never
should trim too much to avoid injuring the blood vessels. I wouldnt
recommend it, unless there seems to be no other and more natural way.
