Well now..I've had a bit of spice added to my life!
I'm having a hard time trying to decide whther or not I have a slate in
my litter of pups born on 2/15/00. The pup is an apparent dark grey
color...at first I thought that maybe she was a poorly colored black, but
after close inspection today she is looking more like a slate...a non-spotted
version of her Grandfather, Method(who now resides in the T&T's Gerbils of
U.P. Michigan..Ann-Marie's Clan) .
The parents are Nuka a Cch Black(mother and father were DTW and Dove) and
Varro a Grey agouti(mother and father were IC and Slate). I have compared
Coal to Lakotah and Coal is obviously grey compared to Lakotah who is
black(neither of the two gerbils are spotted).
I can't go by nail coloring yet because the nail color hasn't fully set
in. Other than comparing to a black gerbil and looking at nail coloring how
can I tell the difference. Those are the only two ways I know of. Are there
any other ways that have been hidden from me?
I suppose I can wait until the nail coloring is fully set in and also
wait to see if any Grey Agouti or IC show up in future litters(this is only
the pairs second litter). :::sigh::: The joys of breeding gerbils..you
think you have everything figured out and then they throw you a curve ball!
