Actually, the best fish/pet store in the area where I live will not sell
gerbils, because according to the owner, 1) they bite, 2) they have
seizures, and mostly 3) they fight and kill each other, which is not good
for business. I would think the most likely explanation would be that
another gerbil killed him, but of course I wasn't there, so this is just a
guess, not to be taken as a statement of fact.
