I prefer them a lot older. When they get to about 18 months, they become
much calmer and tamer. The worst period is adolescence. This is around 3
-6 months. Like adolescent humans, some gerbils get a bit stroppy at this
age. Females may start nipping fingers. Not enough to draw blood, but
enough to scare an inexperienced/nervous gerbil owner. This is the age at
which most gerbils end up in rescue centres or their owners lose interest
and they are condemned to a life of boredom.
