I had a gerbil that went missing for several weeks. Unfortunately it does not have a happy ending. Ginger was on the loose for in the kitchen about three weeks and defied all attempts to re-capture her and managed to destroy a telephone extension and my Dustbuster. I eventualy re-captured her but was wary or putting her back into the cage with her mum and sister so I put her in a small tank with bedding from the big one them over the next few days swapped them all backwards and forwards and mixed up the bedding. Then finally I covered their noses and scent glands with vaseline and introduced them to each other. I kept an eye on them all day and they did not appear to be fighting and by evening they were all snuggled up together. Unfortunately I then had to go away overnight and did not get home untill late next night. When I looked in the cage It was obvious that they had been fighting and Ginger was covered in bites. I took her out and nursed her and she died soon afterwards. I felt dreadful and guilty and the children were very upset. I hope other people have happier endings and I would welcome advice on what to do should I get another escapee. Thanks Alison
