When I was in college, I had a Muslim roommate.  I was familiar from Thor
Heyerdahl (sp?) books about rodents being considered very unclean by many
African and Middle Eastern Muslims.  My roommate was OK with them in our
room, but she said her mother back in Iran was very confused why anyone
would have a "rat" in their house!
