I've been pretty much a dog nut for over 20 years and am new to gerbils, but I
would say some advantages of gerbils as pets is the fun of creating a "gerbil
world" in a tank, the enjoyment of watching them interact in pairs or colonies,
ease to breed and keep generations of gerbils (and watch the pups grow up), and
the fact that they are so easy to care for (even if you need to neglect them
for a day or two).
