I've never had any luck about determining where my gerbils will choose to sleep.
(I give them a couple of options and let them pick). It does seem though that
the about-to-be discarded ratty old box wins over the 8.99 coconut hut or other
adorable pet store buy 95% of the time! Also, mine tend to use one nest for
several days and then switch to another.
