Hi, all,

I have a male youngster born 3-11, one of two pups. He is
a pied nutmeg ee(f), son of mother aaCc(h)e(f)e(f)GGppSp+
and father aaCCee(f)ggPPSp+. His littermate is a pale
nutmeg. Both have already begun to exhibit ticking.

The nutmeg spot male could best be described as mottled,
as his white pattern extends heavily onto his back. This
gives him a much lightened appearance, even from the
nutmeg pied photos I've seen. However, he has a small
spot on his rump, off-center to the left, that is markedly
darker than any other point on his body. This darker area
was noticeable from about six days old, and has remained
dark throughout his development. As his ticking is coming
in, it is clear that this small spot will be much more
heavily ticked than the rest of his body, almost as darkly
as golden agouti, though there is no grey undercoat, of
course.

He has 5 siblings and 15 half siblings total, many of them
mottled nutmeg or (in the case of half siblings) mottled
DEH, all ee(f), and none has exhibited this strange dark
spotting before. For that reason, I think it's safe to say
that this is not a 'regular' variation in mottled nutmeg
ee(f) coloration.

Does this description fit with DPP? Any theories?

Thanks,

Amy H. aka MScottMGP
