Help?

Hi I'm sorta new to gerbil raising. I have 2 male Gerbils, one gray and one golden brown. I was hoping someone could answer these questions of mine.   Can you wash a gerbil? It smells a little funny Is newspaper okay as bedding How do I clip their nails? They feel like little pinches and they sometimes scatch me leaving a white mark.
