Hello,
My name is Heather and I live in the Tampa, Florida
area. I purchased my first two gerbils last Thursday. All is going
well. I got two male litter mates about 6 weeks old. One is
black with white paws, nose, belly, tip of tail, and some on his back. I named
him bandit. He is the more adventurous of the two. He has started
climbing into my hand and "nipping" or tasting me. The other is all brown,
the only name I could come up with is Teddy....not very imaginative. They
live in a ten gallon aquarium now with aspen bedding. I have a water
bottle and am feeding a gerbil mix with a good variety of goodies in it. I
am removing the peanuts and sunflower seeds because of their fat content.
I have also given them a little bit of apple and banana as treats. I just
constructed a nice house out of a cardboard box with lots of holes in it....they
love it. I have a heavy duty screen top on the tank because I have a
couple of curious cats, though they seem to have become less interested
lately. I took the babies out in their run about ball a few days ago. They
haven't gotten the hang of it yet. Practice makes perfect.
I also have the two mentioned cats, a bearded dragon, two
oranda goldfish, and a betta fish.I think that's enough animals for now. I
look forward to being a contributing member of this list and all of the
wonderful information you can provide
