Hi. I have a question about introducing gerbils. I had a 6 week old male
gerbil I was hoping to breed. I bought a Pied Black female from a pet shop
to introduce to him. When I got her (she is 8 weeks of age) she was alone
(sister had been sold already). I put the two into a spit cage several days
ago. Once she got through and the male (Jazz) was terrified. This gerbil is
an escape artist! I fixed the problem I found in the divider and let things
be. This evening I went up to find that she was in Jazz's half of the cage
and he was nowhere to be seen. I searched for him, and was shocked to see
she had killed him. I have always had success with introducing gerbils, but
this one I am not sure about. Every gerbil she has been in contact/near, she
gets defensive and "mean". It seems she prefers to be alone, but I've never
come acrost a gerbil who wasn't lonely by him or herself. Could she just be
a loner? I am reluctant to introduce her to another one of my males. Would
it best to give her to a good home where she'd be by herself? Please give me
your input as I would not like this to happen again.

Thanks,

Sarah
