Pink Eyes

>A lilac must have the "Pink eye dilution genes" pp. In gerbils, there is a dilution to somewhat like ruby red (not quite a pink, as it comes with c(h)c(h) or as pp develops in some other rodents). My question:   If a Lilac must have pink eyes, then what is a gerbil that looks just like a Lilac, but has the very dark ruby eyes.  I have a male that fits the description of a Lilac perfectly.  He even has a rosy tint to his light gray fur...  If he is not a Lilac what is he?   Janet & Elizabeth Mountain Ash
