The woman I babysit for has one of my gerbils. They have owned Cleo,, the
female gerbil, for about 3 months now and they say she isn't being herself.
I brought a breeding pair over with me and set the cage infront of Cleo's
and they said she went nuts. They said she started scratching to get out
and was doing so furiously. About 15 minutes later she was laying huddled
over her food eating with her eyes closed and her fur was nappy. They
cleaned her cage out and I put her in some chin dust to clean her and she is
now clean. WHat they said was that she wasn't trying to get out like she
normally does any chance she gets when they opened her cage to let her out
to play. And that they could reach in and pick her up, pet her, and she
would run from them like she normally does. Also, I've never seen a gerbil
do this but when she would look around standing on her back legs she would
hold her paws in a fist. She wasn't holding anything. She also was eating
almost nonstop for 1-2 days. I looked at her teeth- fine, I looked at her
paws- fine, I looked at her tail, sent gland, and everything else- all fine.
I don't know. When she did walk around she did so with her eyes 1/2
opened. I checked to see if she had a respitor infection, but there is non.
I can't explain it, can any of you? Her face also looks different- her
nose pointyer and her face skinyer. She has been alive for the last 3 days
since all of this started. Help!
