DO NOT put ointment on a gerbil's nose! They will breath it in and that
will have dire consequences.
Is the mother still housed with the father? If so remove him before she
has the pups. Wait until the pups you say she is pregnant with leave the
mom and then introduce her to her sister. I think however it would be safer
and easier to keep one of the daughters with the mom and then introduce the
mother's sister to one of the other baby girls. This will help a lot.
Introducing two adult females is a really bad idea as you can run into a lot
of problems, however it can be done in some cases. Introducing a baby
female to an adult is a lot safer! Besides all that, I had a female pair
that I introduced without knowing one was pregnant. Needless to say, I was
surprised, though not disapointed, when I woke up to 5 little squeeks.
Everything was fine until one day without warning when the pups were about
4-5 weeks old the mother burtally attacked her cage mate. I suggest not
introducing them while she is pregnant.
As for the temperature, I put my air conditoner on when the temp is 80-85*
F.
I hope you get more replys with your questions and I hope this helped a
little.
