Our gerbils, when startled or attempting to escape, often spring straight
up. It's what they were made to do!

Subject: jumpy gerbil update

Hi Everyone,

Only Julian replied to my jumpy gerbil question (thanks!) so I am
figuring that
springing straight up in the air is rare gerbil behavior.

I've had him a week now and after the first two days haven't seen any
more signs
of this springing. I am thinking it was a severe stress reaction to being
separated
from his parents, shipped across the country, and placed in a whole new
environment
all in one day.

He is a really sweet boy who loves to perch on my shoulder and run down
into my
arms then scramble back up to my shoulder. When he's not out though all he
does is
sit in a box in his tank. I'll be introducing him to other male youngsters
very
soon, so I'm hoping he'll come out and explore more when he's in a group.
