introduce two gerbils.

Gerbils do best in pairs, but I've heard sometimes it could be hard for a gerbil
who is older and been alone for a while to accept a cagemate.

Adult gerbils won't eat each other.  Most gerbils are excellent care givers to
their pups.  On occasion a gerbil will eat a newborn, but most likely its died,
she needs water or protein, or in rare cases is stressed or just not cut out for
mothering.
