It is difficult to say. Whilst an adult male will almost always accept
any gerbil much smaller than them regardless of sex, females are
difficult to predict.
We recently acquired an outstanding Lilac DPP in a pet shop. From her
size I would guess she is about nine weeks old, but despite several
attempts using a split cage she will not go with a much older lilac male
who is desperate to settle down with her.
Unfortunately he is the only male lilac we have who she can breed with
and we really would prefer not to mix the colour with anything else
right now.
The bottom line is that it is probably worth a try, but be prepared.
