Odo-Ban works. It is an enzymatic type of disinfectant that is used
as a germicide and viruscide as well. It is often used in kennels
and other places where animals are kept.

I also use something called Odor-Eze; which is also an enzymatic
disinfectant. This is also used in kennels and other places like that.

I use both of these on surfaces in my rodentry as well as the cages.

Use as directed, and rinse and wipe dry.

For food bowls and water bottles; I use Crock brand dishes
from Van-Ess; the very very small size. Even my determined
gnawers have a hard time with those, and you can run them
through the top rack of your dishwasher. Rinse well before
using, to get any trace of your dishwashing detergent off them.

Waterbottles, I use warm water and a few drops of Dawn
dishwashing detergent....in a few inches of water in the sink.
Scrub well with a bottle brush; rinse very well (make sure to
get water through the ball valves in the tube also), and wipe
dry with a paper towel.

If I have any sign of disease, I put a capful of bleach in the
water INSTEAD OF the Dawn dish soap, and use that to
wash the bottles. Do not let them soak. Rinse well and
get water through the ball valves also.

Do NOT *ever* mix DAWN DISH SOAP *and* BLEACH.

Dawn is ammonia based. If you mix ammonia and bleach,
you will create a toxic gas! It will drop you in your tracks
and it does not take much to *kill* you! I accidently did this
once, and just the slightest whiff of it made me drop to the
floor totally helpless. (I was discarding some stuff into a
toilet bowl to flush it at the time,). The fall got me away
from the fumes and jarred my chest so as to cause air
exchange...and I was able to crawl from the bathroom.

You will not have time to react if you run into this stuff.
The slightest amount can *kill* you. I consider myself very
lucky; as no one else was around!
