No Debbie its not a Silly Question but an excellent one.
You will not be able to put the two groups together, (2 and 4) because
each group has developed a dominance hierarchy. Adding gerbils to either
group will upset this, causing them to fight among themselves and each
other. However, if all the gerbils are 4-8 week old babies then you can
put then together. If they are adults keep them apart.
